Girls on the Run is a program that recognizes that every girl is special, that every girl is strong, and that every girl is a winner! It involves running (or walking), and it also teaches girls in grades 3 through 5 about health, friendship, body image, self-esteem and community service.
The 20 lesson curriculum, run twice a week after school, combines training for a 5k run/walk event on the last day of the program at the school with lessons that promote physical, emotional, and social development. At Girls on the Run, girls will learn about standing up to peer pressure, values, cooperation, healthy decisions, and more!
The program will run at Bakersfield Public School on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30p.m. to 4:45p.m. in the gym. The program starts Tuesday, April 8, 2014 through June 9, 2014. There will be a presentation for interested girls on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 at 12:55p.m. recess in the gym. Online registration will be available beginning January 27th, 2014. Information cards will be handed out at the presentation. Please encourage your child to consider participating.
Please feel free to contact any of the coaches at the school if you are interested to volunteer on either of the days. For more information, please visit www.girlsontherun.ca, or contact the coaches: Ms. Napoli, Ms. Woolfson, Ms.Diodati, Ms.Crichton and Ms. Necsulescu.
