We would like to thank all the students, parents, guardians and our hard working, committed staff who have made this year at Bakersfield P.S. such a rewarding time. Thank you to a wonderful group of individuals. On behalf of the school, we would like to thank the School Council for their endless work and continued support and encouragement of our students and the school. The accomplishments of this partnership are immeasurable and we look forward to continuing this positive and collaborative relationship with the School Council next year.
To our graduates, best wishes as you head off to your secondary schools. You have contributed greatly to our school and will always be a part of the Bakersfield Public School family. To the members of our community who are moving, thanks for your contributions to the school and best wishes in your new communities.
June is also a time for good-byes and welcomes. As previously announced our Principal Ms. Hanada Kardassopoulos is leaving Bakerfield P.S. and moving to Joseph A. Gibson Public School. Ms. Jackie Houghton, Ms. Sarah Ramsay, Ms. Angelica Napoli, Ms. Diana Svetanic and Ms. Jacqui Rosensweig will also be leaving Bakersfield P.S. We wish them the best of luck in their new schools.
Please join us as we welcome back the following staff – Ms. Gaby Fridman, Ms. Marina Guitlina and Ms. Dalia Kazandji. Please also join us in welcoming our new staff – Mrs. Janet Giberson joins us as our new vice principal following a secondment with the Ministry of Education. Ms. Jennifer Smith joins us from Rick Hansen P.S., Ms. Danielle Webb joins us from Reesor Park P.S., Ms. Jeanette Jacobs joins us from Nellie McClung P.S. and Mr. James Little joins us from Westminster P.S. We will also be joined by six designated early childhood educators, working in our full day kindergarten program.
The school year begins on Tuesday September 2, 2014. Students are asked to be on the school property at 8:40 a.m. (On the first day, students in JK attend for the last 100 minutes only, beginning at 1:35 p.m.) Please be advised that school starts at 8:55 a.m. sharp, our lunch hour will be 12:35 – 1:35 and the scheduled end time is 3:15 p.m. for all grades. For the first day please ensure that your child either brings a lunch or has written permission to go home on this day. Please plan drop off and pick up times accordingly.
On September 2, 2014 students are asked to congregate at the rear of the school where they will be met by the staff. Parents/guardians will be invited to join the students on the tarmac to see who their child(ren)’s teacher is/are. On September 2, 2014 if it is raining, students will be brought into the gym (primary, junior) and library (intermediate) to be put into classes. Please be reminded that due to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, class lists cannot be posted. Please also note that the organization on the first day of school is a tentative organization and as enrollment changes we may have to reorganize our current classes.
Please note that we are encouraging our parents/guardians and their child/children to walk to school or park on one of the adjacent streets and walk to school. Our parking lot is very busy at entry and dismissal times and with the addition of Full Day Kindergarten we will have more vehicle traffic in the parking lot. Please be reminded to not park in the Kiss and Ride … please walk to school!
