Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities together, as a whole family.
ABC Life Literacy Canada encourages Canadian families to have “15 Minutes of Fun” learning together. Learning happens everywhere and it’s easy to make learning part of your daily life. Whether reading and writing, playing and exercising, or sharing day-to-day tasks such as shopping and cooking, learning can take you anywhere! ABC Life Literacy offers a list of activities to help you begin.
In honour of Family Literacy Day on Tuesday, January 27th, 2015, our Grades K-3 students will have the opportunity to celebrate by dressing up as their favourite story book character. Some ideas include: Fancy Nancy, Geronimo Stilton, Harry Potter, Stink or Judy Moody, Olivia, Katie Woo, Captain Awesome, the Paper Bag Princess, Franklin or the Cat in the Hat! The class with the most students dressing up will win a Scholastic Gift Certificate for their classroom!
