April 2nd is the United Nations sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day and organizations in the international autism community support families, schools, communities along with governmental and professional organization in bringing to light the challenges and triumphs of people on the autism spectrum.
At Bakersfield P.S. we will be shining a light on autism as part of Autism Speaks’ Light It Up Blue campaign, where our students will show their support through the simple act of dressing in blue on Thursday, April 2nd. Our work as a school continues to be building a stronger and more inclusive community for all of our learners, including those students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
For more information about the Light It Up Blue campaign visit Autism Speaks and learn of the many national and international locations that will be lit up in blue, (including the Great Pyramid in Egypt!) For additional information about Autism and to learn about local World Autism Awareness Day campaigns, visit Autism Ontario’s Raise the Flag for Autism page.
Please help us shine a light on autism by encouraging your children to Light It Up Blue this Thursday and celebrate World Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue to school to show their support!
