On Wednesday, February 8th at 11:15 a.m., Olympic athlete (and York Region resident) Sarah Wells will be at Bakersfield Public School sharing her journey to the Olympics with students in grades 4-8. She has represented Canada many times in competition, experiencing both success and heartbreak throughout her athletic career. Her unwavering commitment to her sport and perseverance through difficulty make her a wonderful ambassador for our students.
To share her positive message, Sarah has founded the #believeinitiative. Explained, “many will encounter obstacles along their journey and some will consider giving up in a moment of adversity. During this critical adolescent time, it is important we talk about being resilient, believing in yourself and learning through our mistakes and obstacles. By showing young people that even Olympic athletes make mistakes and fall down, the Believe Initiative will exemplify what will happen when you focus on the process, persevere past the obstacles and continue to believe in yourself and your goals.”
We are excited to host this speaker at Bakersfield P.S. and to show our support we are asking all students to come dressed in Canadian spirit-wear (or any red and white clothing) that day. Parents are welcome to attend the assembly, as well, subject to available space. For more on Sarah Wells and the Believe Initiative please visit www.believeinitiative.com.
