Modern Learning on Air (‘MLonAIR’) is “a full day of broadcasts on YouTube with teachers and students from the York Region District School Board sharing their Modern Learning Projects, what they learned, and the impact of their projects on their school, community, and even world.”
Bakersfield P.S. contributed two broadcasts to the project. One broadcast focused on our STEAM Night. “On Thursday, May 24 Bakersfield PS hosted their first STEAM night for students and families in grades 1 – 4. The focus of the evening was to educate families on the components of Modern Learning through STEAM activities. Students engaged in robotics, circuits, Breakout EDU, green screen and educational devices. Our goal was for students to develop 21st Century learning skills including collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, and critical thinking and problem solving.”
The other broadcast focused on our use of learning spaces. “Bakersfield PS has been engaged in a Modern Learning Project with a focus on transforming our learning spaces. We began by changing some classrooms by purchasing a variety of flexible seating options. We had students work collaboratively in order to redesign their classrooms. We have also decided to extend our learning to redesign our Library Learning Commons. We want it to be an open, accessible space for students and teachers to collaborate, explore and create.”
We look forward to continuing our efforts to promote Modern Learning!
