Things are busy here at BPS and great things are happening! Here is a look back at last week with just a few of the Bakersfield Awesome moments…
Students in Ms. Roebuck, Ms. Baynes and Ms. Pivetta’s class Skyped with Park Ranger Daniel from Point Lobos Natural Reserve in California. He Skyped us from a kayak in a cover in the Pacific Ocean. He showed us the kelp forest and the impact that humans have on the environment. He showed us different wildlife and discussed their habitats and the biodiversity in the ocean.
Our teachers have been learning and partnering together to try new things in class with our students. Here is a picture of Ms. Pivetta and Mrs. Malka working with students on Math Strings! Math Strings help students develop their mental math strategies.
One of our Social Workers, Helen Elraheb came to speak to the grade 6 and 7’s about mental health and well-being.
Last week teachers were encouraged to take students outdoors for “Take Me Outside Day!”. The purpose of this initiative is to demonstrate the importance of appreciating nature while also getting fresh air. This time of year is a great time to take your children outdoors and observe the beautiful fall colours. Plan a walk in the forest with your family this week and weekend. Enjoy!
