This Week at BPS

Hey Roadrunners!

If you haven’t had a look at the calendar tab of the Blog or the School Council tab, you may not have noticed that we have a School Council meeting on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the library.  If you are interested, please come out and join us.  We will be talking about school initiatives, parent engagement, community events and other exciting topics!  Everyone is welcome!  We are looking for as many new joiners as possible…

Parent Teacher Interviews – we will be sending out a Blog post with instructions of how to sign up for the Interviews.  If you have not registered for Edsby or forget how to log in, please contact the office to get yourself prepared for sign up.

This week is Holocaust Education Week.  We are acknowledging this week in various ways throughout the building and will also be hosting a Holocaust survivor on Thursday morning to speak with our Grade 7 & 8 students.  The public is welcome to join, please just RSVP using the link on the post about the speaker from last week.

The week of November 1 to 8, inclusive, marks the 38 annual Holocaust Education Week (HEW).  The focus of this year’s Holocaust Education Week is Illumination the Shadows: Untold Stories of the Holocaust. With millions of pages of historical documents, photographs and film recorded by perpetrators, victims and rescuers, along with thousands of hours of recorded testimony from survivors as well as perpetrators, the Holocaust is the most documented case of genocide in the world.

This week is Treaty Recognition Week – Did you know that the first week of November is officially Ontario’s Treaty Recognition Week?  During the week of November 5 – 9, 2018, we recognize the importance of treaties and bring awareness to the treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the province. There are 46 treaties in Ontario and we all have a responsibility to honour the treaties.
