Hi Bakersfield!
If you haven’t had a chance to view the Thought of the Week and Birthday Video – please have a look!
There have been many holidays recently – Easter, Passover, Puthandu, Vaisakhi and this week Ridvan and the beginning of Ramadan. We hope that all of you have been able to celebrate and engage in traditions despite having to be away from community, family, and friends. Certainly we know that distance, while sometimes emotionally difficult, does not prevent us from celebrating and remembering what is significant to each of us. Happy Holidays to everyone!
THIS WEEK:
Tuesday April 21st is Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom HaShoah. While Yom HaShoah was born out of a desire for the solemn commemoration of lives
lost, it has grown into a celebration of resistance and struggle for human dignity in the face of cruelty. It is particularly poignant this year as 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Many of our students and families have been participating in the #Iwilltellyourstory and #liberation75 campaigns on social media.
Wednesday April 22nd is EARTH DAY! As you know, we are working on reducing our Single-Use plastics at Bakersfield. Maybe you can help at home? Less ziploc bags and more re-useable bags and containers. No plastic cutlery or straws…what else can you think of to help our environment? Have a look at this website for great activities to learn about sustainability and to get outside with your family! Take Sustainable Action!
