In 2007, a Grade 9 student in Nova Scotia wore pink on his first day of school. He was bullied. Two students saw this and decided to take a stand against bullying. The two students bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged all their classmates to wear pink to send the powerful message of solidarity to the bully. Pink Shirt Day is now recognized every year in February where people wear pink show their support for safe and inclusive schools, workplaces and communities.
This year the theme for Pink Shirt Day is to “Lift Each Other Up.” Help us “lift each other up” by promoting kindness and compassion.
Wednesday February 24th is PINK Shirt Day. With our focus on kindness and being proud to be Bakersfield, we will be acknowledging Pink Shirt Day. At Bakersfield, we have a focus on standing up to bullies and not be a bystander. We are working together to understand that we can be the Power Of One, and make a difference in our school and community.
On February 24, 2021, we encourage everyone to practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying. If you don’t have pink, please wear your Bakersfield spirit wear or team house colour.
