G’mar Chatima Tovah! October 5th is Yom Kippur for Jewish people. This is the most solemn holiday in the Jewish calendar and follows the celebration of the New Year, Rosh Hashanah. We wish our families celebrating an easy fast!

October is Hispanic Heritage Month. Did you know that ‘Hispanic’ and ‘Latino’ are often used interchangeably though they actually mean two different things? Hispanic refers to people who speak Spanish and/or are descended from Spanish-speaking populations, while Latino refers to people who are from or descended from people from Latin America.

October is Islamic Heritage Month. As we seek to prevent, combat and stop all forms of hate and discrimination, we take time to learn about others. This month we are talking about Islamaphobia and the misunderstandings that exist about Islam. We also take time to learn about the amazing accomplishments and contributions of Islamic peoples around the world and especially here in Canada.

Shubh Diwali! October 24th is the beginning of Diwali for Hindu, Sikhs and Jain people. The festival of Diwali is celebrated on the darkest night of the year in the Hindu month of Kartik and lasts for five days. It is known as a the festival of light that celebrates hope, knowledge, success and fortune. We wish our families celebrating a Happy Diwali!
